At 9:30 p.m., a driver of a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox left their vehicle running while making a delivery to a residence on Elmwood Avenue near Meadowbrook Road, Maplewood police said.
When the driver returned to their vehicle they were met by a man dressed in all black pointing a handgun, police said.. The suspect male then entered into the vehicle and fled the scene, police said. The driver was not injured in the encounter, police said. The vehicle was later recovered in Newark, police said.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
